What are the differences between Residence 7 and Residence 9 Windows?

The Residence’s Collection of windows were designed and are manufactured in the UK. They were created with the enduring designs of British architecture in mind and have many bespoke options that can satisfy a range of homes, from the age-old village Manor house to the solid good looks of Georgian and Victorian properties, right through to modern housing estates

The Residence brand is an eclectic blend of traditional aesthetics and innovative design. Whatever period your property is, we are sure there is a window for your property. The historical design and conservation guidelines were used when designing this system so it authentically replicates traditional timber sightlines.

What are flush windows?

The Residence collection of windows are outward opening flush casement style windows. By flush we mean that the window opening often know as the sash sits flat against the outside face of the window (frame). So flush windows sit flat against the surrounding frame.  Flush casement windows have grown in popularity over the years, due to their timeless aesthetics, quality thermal performance (they can be tripled glazed with 44mm units) and just because they offer something different to the uPVC window marketplace

Residence Windows thermal performance

The biggest differences between the two Residence Collection windows are how many chambers the window profiles are made up of. The Residence 7 (R7) window has a total of 7 chambers, whereas unsurprisingly the Residence 9 (R9) has 9 chambers. Multiple chambers help to improve the thermal efficiency of the window. Generally the more chambers the better. They also both achieve A+ energy ratings and can be fitted with either 28mm double or 44mm triple glazing.

Main differences between R9 & R7

KJM have been trading in the Hampshire and it surrounding counties for over 42 years and we offer both the Residence 7 windows and Residence 9 windows, both stunning designs, perfect for any home. If you’d like to find out more about the range of features and benefits the Residence 9 and 7 windows offer, then keep on reading.

Although the Residence 7 windows and Residence 9 windows do share some similarities, there are also a number of features that make the profiles differ from each other, the main one being the depth of the window. The R9 window is 100mm (inside to out) whereas the Residence 7 window is 75mm. This is quite an important specification to bear in mind when choosing replacement windows as many uPVC systems were either 60mm or 70mm. Removing a window that is 60mm thick and trying to replace it with a window 100mm thick will require the internal cills and plasterwork to be cut back by 40mm. Although not an impossible task, it can be a messy/dusty job that could well need redecoration after the installation. Cutting back stone or tiled internal cills can be a major challenge.

Residence windows external appearance

Externally there is no difference between the R7 and R9 sash window. They look identical.

The Residence 7 window have a fully flush finish on both sides of the window. The Residence 9 window as an external flush appearance on the outside, with the interior of the profile providing a more detailed and decorative look.

Residence 7 and 9 window handles and hardware

Both styles come with a range of bespoke window hardware and accessories, so you can tailor the interior and exterior of the frame to match your preferred style preferences be it modern or more traditional.

You can customise your Residence Collection windows and doors with tailor-made butt hinges, available in dummy or functional configurations, along with a selection of handles and stays, offered in a variety of colours.

The range of hardware styles allows you to update your windows while preserving their character, while also providing the opportunity to choose a more contemporary look. With a diverse array of styles and colours to choose from, you can enhance the aesthetic of your property, whether it’s contemporary or period in design.

Jointing/welds on your choice of Residence collection windows

Residence 7 & 9 has been designed to embrace multiple manufacturing techniques which in turn provides a different look to the window. A traditional mechanical joint provides the ultimate timber alternative aesthetic. A mitre welding technique (commonly used on standard uPVC windows)  can fuse the joints together diagonally for a contemporary appearance and cheaper price-point. Another option you can choose the Graf weld for a seamless diagonal weld. The Timberweld® process welds the profiles with a timber look to both sides

Colour choices from The Residence Collection

Residence Collection windows come in a range of colours and finishes.

A very diverse colour palette is at your disposal, consisting of an eclectic mix of authentic finishes covering a number of architectural styles. We can offer everything from timeless classics like Grained White to contemporary favourites such as Agate grey/Painswick. You also have the opportunity to choose a dual finish so that you have a contrasting internal colour that complements your indoor space as elegantly as the external colour suits your outdoor surrounds. You can view the colour palette on the Residence Collection website
